The Company, through its 25% indirectly owned company, BMW Brilliance Automotive Ltd. (BBA), manufactures and sells its vehicles under the "BMW" brand name in China. On 27th March, 2003, the Company (through its indirectly owned subsidiary) entered into a joint venture contract with BMW Holding B.V. in relation to the establishment of BBA, which operates R&D, procurement, production, sales and after-sales services of BMW automobiles in China. Staying true to the BMW brand core, BBA is dedicated to deliver the next level of intelligent “Sheer driving pleasure” to its customers by leveraging innovative technologies.

The joint venture’s state-of-the-art production base in Shenyang, China, is now the largest one in the BMW Group’s worldwide production network. Currently, BBA manufactures the all-new BMW 5 Series LWB, the first-ever BMW i5, the BMW 3 Series (long and standard wheelbase) and the new BMW i3, the all-new BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé, BMW X1 and BMW iX1, the all-new BMW X3 and BMW iX3, and BMW X5. With the locally produced Neue Klasse models starting from 2026, BBA is accelerating the ramp up for the series production of the Neue Klasse.

With strong roots in the country for over two decades, the joint venture has always been committed to deliver technology-leading and high-quality BMW products in China. BBA’s locally-produced 3-series and 5-series BMW sedans were initially introduced to the Chinese market in November 2003 targeting the premium sedan segment.

In November 2006, the China-specific 5-series long wheelbase model was launched. Concurrent with worldwide introduction, the new generation locally produced 5 and 3 series sedans were launched in 2010 and 2012, respectively.

In addition, in early 2012, BBA also commenced production and sale of BMW SAVs in China with the X1 model.

At the end of 2014, BBA introduced the very first China-produced BMW new energy vehicle, the 5-series long-wheelbase plug-in hybrid model.

The 2-series Active Tourer and the next generation X1 long-wheelbase was launched to the market in March and May of 2016, respectively.

The new generation X3 sport activity vehicle, which is the sixth BMW model that is locally produced by BBA, underwent market launch in June 2018. In addition to the X3, BBA also introduced in March 2018 the plugin hybrid version of the new 5-series.

The all-new 3-series, the leading premium sports sedan in its segment, was launched in July 2019, and the locally produced the X2 also came to market in late 2019.

In November 2020, BBA’s first premium pure-electric SAV – first-ever BMW iX3 was launched. In March 2022, the locally-produced all new BMW X5 and BMW i3 were nationally launched simultaneously. In August 2022, the new BMW 3 Series was nationally launched. In September 2023, the all-new BMW iX1 rolled off BBA’s production line.

In January 2024, the all-new BMW 5 Series was officially launched. In May 2024, the 6 millionth vehicle produced by BBA, a BMW i5, rolled off the production line. And in June 2024, the first locally produced BMW MPA model, the all-new BMW X1 M35Li, made its debut.

In January 2025, the all-new BMW X3 began production. In the same month, the first locally produced sedan from BMW M, the all-new BMW M235L Gran Coupe, was launched along with the first locally produced BMW Gran Coupe, the all-new BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe.
